Today, Ha Tien city is crowded with houses close together, and many new and spacious urban areas have been built upon the sea encroachment areas and bustling commercial streets. Recently, Ha Tien was decided by the Prime Minister (in Decision No. 21/2020/QD-TTg) to establish Ha Tien border-gate economic zone. This is the fulcrum for Ha Tien to develop into a bustling coastal city and strong border-gate economic zone.
Ha Tien city is located in the northwest of Kien Giang province. For a long time, Ha Tien has been appraised as a tourist land with famous scenic spots "Ha Tien's ten bays", belonging to the tourist golden triangle region of Kien Giang province: Rach Gia - Ha Tien - Phu Quoc. Ha Tien city identifies tourism service as a key economic sector, Ha Tien city government has made efforts to improve the quality of tourism services and products to attract more tourists to Ha Tien. Every year, Ha Tien welcomes more than 2.5 million visitors…
Over the past years, Ha Tien has actively invested in infrastructure construction, has encroached on the sea 220ha, and developed residential areas such as Nam Ha Tien tourist urban area encroached on the sea 100ha to form a tourist service center and a high-class resort, a swimming pool - a sports area on the sea, a commercial - service center, a residential area, and a cluster of ports in Binh An and Thanh Thoi; The northern urban area is also invested with high-rise buildings close together and many entertainment services, restaurants, shops, banks…
The leader of Ha Tien city said: “To have a civilized and modern city, the locality has created many incentives and an open investment environment. A series of projects encroaching on the sea from public capital and enterprises have been drastically implemented. Ha Tien trade center, To Chau wharf cluster, Binh An wharf, North-South Ha Tien new urban area... have become in shape.
Although Ha Tien city has had a much newer development, according to investors, Ha Tien still has a lot of room to invest in urban development, trade - tourism services... A new force to promote Ha Tien city to accelerate development is the Prime Minister's Decision No. 21/2020/QD-TTg signed in early August 2020, on the establishment of the Ha Tien border-gate economic zone.
According to this Decision, Ha Tien border-gate economic zone, Kien Giang province is an area with definite geographical boundaries, territory, and national sovereignty, with a separate economic space. Ha Tien border-gate economic zone covers an area of 1,600 ha, including 05 wards: Fort Dai, Dong Ho, To Chau, Binh San, and My Duc. The geographical boundary is determined as follows: The North borders Kampot province, Kingdom of Cambodia; the South aligns with Thuan Yen commune, Ha Tien city; The East and Southeast border Phu My commune, Giang Thanh district; The West and Southwest borders Rach Gia Bay, Rach Gia City.
Ha Tien border gate economic zone is organized into functional zones including a non-tariff zone, international border gate area, industrial park, tourist area, administrative area, residential area, and other functional areas. The scale and location of each functional zone are determined in the general construction planning and detailed planning of the Ha Tien border-gate economic zone.
Regarding the activities, mechanisms, and policies for Ha Tien border-gate economic zone, Kien Giang province comply with the law on investment, the law on enterprises, Decree No. 82/2018/ND-CP dated 22/02 May 2018 of the Government on the management of industrial parks, economic zones, and other relevant legal documents…
Previously, at the beginning of 2020, the Prime Minister approved the task of general planning for Ha Tien city and Ha Tien border-gate economic zone (Kien Giang province) until 2040. The scope and boundaries of urban planning are determined on the entire administrative boundary of Ha Tien city, including 7 administrative units (5 wards: Binh San, Dong Ho, Fort Dai, To Chau, My Duc; 2 communes: Thuan Yen and Tien Hai island commune) with a natural area of about 100.49 km2 and the sea surface area between Tien Hai island commune and the mainland communes of Ha Tien city.
Ha Tien city has the eastern boundary bordering Giang Thanh district, Kien Giang province; the West borders the Gulf of Thailand; the South borders Kien Luong district, Kien Giang province; The North borders the Kingdom of Cambodia.
The objective is to build Ha Tien city, Ha Tien border-gate economic zone, and Kien Giang province into the center of economy, trade, tourism, culture, and heritage in the Mekong Delta region; develop Ha Tien city sustainably and synchronously in terms of modern technical and socio-economic infrastructure, determining its position to become a cultural-heritage destination; preserve, exploit and promote traditional cultural values; spatial planning of urban areas and border gate economic zones, improve regional linkage efficiency, associate economic development with the assurance of national defense and border security, create a premise to achieving grade-2 urban standards by 2030, in line with the planning orientation of the national urban and rural system; manage development towards a modern, green and smart urban, energy-saving; attracting investment; human resource training; adapting to climate change…
A national border-gate economic city, a regional center of trade and tourism services, is Ha Tien city.
